Restoring an Apple II Plus
We recently completed the restoration of a beautiful 1979 Apple II Plus that came to us in rough condition. The machine had been stored in a basement for decades and showed significant signs of age and neglect.
Assessment
Upon initial inspection, we found:
- Heavy yellowing of the plastic case
- Corroded power supply
- Non-functional keyboard
- Oxidation on PCB contacts
The Process
The restoration took approximately 40 hours of work, including:
- Careful disassembly and documentation
- Retrobrite treatment for the case
- Power supply rebuild with modern capacitors
- Keyboard restoration and switch cleaning
- PCB cleaning and contact restoration
- Extensive testing and burn-in
Results
The Apple II Plus is now fully functional and looks fantastic. It boots reliably and all original features work perfectly. This machine will provide many more years of enjoyment for its new owner.
